The Lord Mayors of Australia’s capital cities will convene for a Council of Capital City Lord Mayors (CCCLM) forum in Singapore today to coincide with the World Cities Summit.
Chair of the CCCLM and Lord Mayor of Melbourne Robert Doyle said this is the largest delegation of Australian Lord Mayors to attend the summit.
“Australia is the 52nd most populous country in the world, but we are the most urbanised; according to the World Bank almost 90 per cent of Australians live in a city,”[1] Lord Mayor Doyle said.
“Australia’s Lord Mayors are delighted to share our experiences in managing urban communities with Mayors and civic leaders from across the globe.
“The World Cities Summit provides an important global platform for government leaders and industry experts to discuss city challenges, forge partnerships and share information on innovative urban projects.”
The CCCLM is the vehicle for Australian Lord Mayors to engage with Australia’s Federal Government. The CCCLM is currently pursuing action on climate change, homelessness, international education, alcohol management, and childcare.
The Lord Mayors of Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide will deliver presentations at the World Cities Summit, profiling Australia’s experience in delivering:
- Vibrant Cities – Lord Mayor of Melbourne Robert Doyle (CCCLM Chair)
- Liveable and Sustainable Cities – Fast Forward – Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore
- Will Mayors Rule the World – Lord Mayor of Adelaide Stephen Yarwood
